AN ENDURING GIFT

Your Legacy, Our Future

Support the Club and make a lasting impact on its future

A gift to the future of the Club is a generous and empowering contribution you can make to ensure the Lyceum Club remains vibrant, financially secure, accessible, and well-resourced for its members. Since its founding in 1912 the aim of the Lyceum Club has been to provide generations of women with a safe and comfortable place to meet in the city, to forge and sustain friendships and to engage in intellectual and cultural pursuits in an apolitical, non-sectarian, warm, and welcoming environment. The Club is built upon a heritage of giving: time, treasure, and talent. Over the years, so much has been achieved thanks to the generosity of our members. Leaving a gift in your Will is an opportunity for you to say thank you for the circles of friendship and stimulation you have enjoyed at the Club, and to ensure it remains strong and vibrant into the future. Remembering the Melbourne Lyceum Club in your Will is an enduring and transformative way to enrich the lives of future generations of women. We encourage you to consider leaving a gift in your Will to support the Club and make a lasting impact on its future.

YOUR LASTING GIFT TO THE LYCEUM CLUB

For many people, a bequest is the most powerful and meaningful philanthropic contribution that they will ever make. A gift in your Will to the Melbourne Lyceum Club will provide a lasting benefit to future generations of members and help us to plan for the Club with confidence. While membership fees support the cost of day-to-day operations, bequests and other gifts enable us to continue developing our facilities to create welcoming meeting and social spaces and ensure that the Club continues to have a secure financial framework. Challenges such as the recent pandemic, building and safety requirements and the unexpected can be weathered with financial resources.

PLANNING YOUR BEQUEST

The Lyceum Club welcomes bequests of all sizes. Every bequest is important and will make a significant difference to the Club’s sustainability and the continued provision of its wonderful services. It is simple to add a provision for a philanthropic gift to your Will. In general, a bequest can be defined as:

  • A proportion of the residue of the estate
  • Particular assets
  • An amount of money you specify

A Will gives you the opportunity to direct your estate to those people and organisations that are most important to you and reflect your personal values. When planning your bequest, we recommend that you discuss your intentions with your family and seek independent legal and financial advice when preparing or updating your Will. Some suggested bequest wording is available below. The Club is committed to sound financial management and careful oversight to ensure your gift is administered in accordance with your wishes.

Why I am leaving a bequest…

“My life has been immeasurably enriched by my involvement in Club activities and the friendships I have formed. As a way of saying thank you, I hope my bequest will support the ongoing financial well-being of the Club for future generations of Lyceum women.”

Helen Moylan

“Generous bequests over the years have enabled the re-creation of space in our Club, allowing for lectures, more circles and private dining. More recently, we completed our new third floor with the knowledge that a bequest had provided us with the confidence that the Club would look to the future from a strong position. A bequest is a gift to the future of our Club, and a way of saying thank you for all we have enjoyed,”

Jennifer Milne

“The generosity of past members has been absolutely vital in creating the Club we know and
love. Bequests are the best way to make a lasting contribution and to give  future members the pleasure we’ve all enjoyed.”

RECOGNISING YOUR BEQUEST: The Lucy Archer Circle

The Lucy Archer Circle was established by the Board to recognise and honour the generosity of those who have chosen to leave a gift to the Club in their Will. Membership is open to anyone who has confirmed, in writing, that they intend to leave a bequest to the Lyceum Club in their Will. Its name, the Lucy Archer Circle, recognises the woman who was given the honour of officially proposing the founding of the Melbourne Lyceum Club in 1912. Lucy was the warden of Trinity Hostel which provided accommodation for female students studying at the University of Melbourne. Every bequestor helps enable that founding vision and commitment to be sustained and enriched. Members of the Lucy Archer Circle maintain a close and enduring connection to the Club through an annual function and other activities. While we encourage everyone who has included the Club in their Will to notify us, we understand that many do not seek recognition; we also welcome and respect bequests made anonymously. It is entirely your choice.

Thank You

The future success of the Lyceum Club is dependent on all of us today. Your careful consideration of a gift in your Will to benefit the Club and future generations of members is greatly appreciated.
