Caroline Travers has become a greatly-respected ‘Club Treasure’ during her 48 years of membership.
As President from 1986-1988, an enduring legacy of her term in office was the founding of the Margaret Sutherland Bursary Award,
with which she continues her active involvement. In recognition of her immeasurable contribution to Club life, Caroline
has been honoured with Honorary Life Membership.
A graduate of the University of Melbourne (BA (Hons) in French), Caroline’s career has largely been in philanthropy
at Victoria State Opera and Opera Australia. Her outstanding linguistic skills proved valuable in liaising with the International
Association of Lyceum Clubs, and she was elected International President 2001-2007. The new Statutes of the Association were created during
her term, and she is contributing to a current review. Caroline was awarded the Medal of the
Order of Australia in 2009 for ‘service to women through the International Association of Lyceum Clubs and the community’.
